Every so often I get a mail in my inbox that makes me stop whatever it is I’m working on. News of the unveiling of Janita Toerien’s Spring/Summer 2012/13 collection was just one of those emails.
The gorgeous fashion shoot was held at Giraffe House, a wildlife awareness centre on the outskirts of Stellenbosch. It seemed that the wintry weather could ruin the shoot. Fortunately a reprieve from rain gave the models and photographer, Jenny Koornhof, a dramatic backdrop of dark moody skies, fields of lush green grass and warm brown fynbos.
Oh, and the models are not models at all… they’re regular women! Some of them are brides who wore one of Janita’s designs on for their own weddings earlier this year. It just goes to show that fabulous hair, make-up and a beautiful wedding gown are all you need!
Janita believes a wedding gown is extremely special because it’s the dress a bride carefully chooses to wear when she present herself to her husband and commits herself to him. I’ve never thought about it like that but when I recall how important it was to me that my Mr never saw my dress until the day, I realised that there’s something scared and extremely beautiful about wedding gowns.
Janita Toerien’s Spring/Summer 2012/13 collection includes the natural shades of warm ivory, champagne and blush. Lace and beaded details were selected to add subtle delicate touch to each gown. Multiple layers of fabric in varying tones add texture and depth while details such as polka dots and tulle create a whimsical and frivolous feel.
The Spring/Summer 2012/13 collection will be launched at the Tyger Valley Bridal Expo on 30 August. If you would like to see the gowns up close and personal, be sure to visit the expo. Alternatively, visit www.janitatoerien.co.za.
