Anke and Altus’s Joyful Jeffreys Bay Wedding

Their sublime seaside engagement shoot, featured earlier this year, captured their playfulness. Their wedding photos captured their joy! And that’s what I admire about good wedding photographers – they capture more than the pretty details!

Now I’m not saying that Anke and Altus’s wedding details aren’t gorgeous – they are! As the lovely wedding photographer Niki M wrote on her site, “I nearly had a happy feet dancing attack when I walked into the reception hall. The decor was absolutely, unbelievably gorgeous!”

But as Anke says, “Our theme was pretty much what every other wedding is nowadays…romantic, rustic, vintage… ”

I understand what Anke means. Let’s be honest darlings, the wedding details are lovely but how much energy does it really deserve? Why do we fall into the trap of treating details like it’s a big deal worthy of mini meltdowns?

The more weddings I see, the more I appreciate the work that goes into every detail, but the more I find myself looking for those excited smiles, uncontrollable tears, the laughter, embraces and kisses. In my opinion, those are the beautiful moments and this wedding is full of them! Every picture tells a part of the story about the day when two people promised to become family. And that’s a big deal!

{The Wedding}

Our theme was pretty much what every other wedding is nowadays…romantic, rustic, vintage in shades of light pink, beige, green and white.

Most memorable moment was walking up to my sobbing future hubby : ) As I walked down the aisle. My dad was so touched by Altus crying that it threw him a bit and he completely forgot to “give me away” : )  It was also awesome to spend time with good, old friends and meet a few new ones – that always happens on a wedding hey!

And also an awesome speech by one of my bestest, oldest friends. She had the crowd in pieces laughing!

{Advice for Brides-To-Be}

  • Relax – and enjoy every moment. It flies by. Everybody says it but its soooo true! I still wish I could’ve spent more time with some people. Also, forget about what could or had gone wrong – nobody will even know the difference. It’s just not worth the stress.
  • Eat – Even if it’s just a bite of everything. A hungry bride, drunk on wedding champagne… not cool : ) : ) : )
  • Dance – Enjoy the dance floor and everyone on it. You’re the queen of the dance floor for one night and you’ll love the attention! : )
