How We Met

Trevor and I met in December 2006 while working as waiter at a local restaurant in Newcastle. He eventually got the courage to make a move but only after he had left that job (he believes couples should not work together) and we’ve been going strong since then!

The Wedding Décor & DIY

Wedding colours were mint and lavender. I loved the idea of having purple and white hydrangeas on the tables. The florist was only able to get a few purple stems so most of the bloom ended up being blue but they were beautiful regardless!

The flower tins on table were all spray painted matt white by me, with the help of my mother and sister, who was also my maid of honour. We used hydrangeas in the large tine and baby’s breath in the smaller tins. I also made the table numbers on the white candles and the tins on the stand for the table seating chart.  It was all done just days before the big day!

The confetti cones made by a friend and the dried lavender were collected by me in the months leading up to the day. Was so therapeutic picking and drying the lavender for this.

For the wedding programs, Trev and I to stamp our thumb prints into a heart shape – an idea from the wonderful World Wide Web – and printed the programs at home. Now it’s something that means something to us and it’s a lovely keepsake for our album.

Or wedding ceremony was a simple, tasteful (well I think so) celebration. It was an enjoyable, laid back family get-together and if things went wrong I didn’t even notice!

Advice for Brides-To-Be

  • All the small things you stress about finalising about the week before the big day are not important! If something hasn’t been done about a month before the day, it’s really not needed.
  • On the day you should be focused on your marriage and even if everything doesn’t go exactly to plan (I know ours didn’t) – who cares?!
  • Choose to spend your wedding day with close loved ones and family – they will never judge you!

What a beautiful DIY wedding. So relaxed and chilled, and we find that’s the best way newlyweds enjoy their day.
