I love to dance but oh boy, I suck at Zumba. During my first class, I almost ran out crying.
Zumba shame and free fitness
I struggle to tell my left from my right on a good day so, during my first Zumba class, I had to concentrate so hard to follow the moves. I must have looked like as crazy serious as Christian Bale in American Psycho because the instructor kept looking directly at me and telling me to smile. To make matters worse, everyone in the small class started to stare at me like I was anti-Zumba or something. I’m pretty sure I turned the colour of beetroot. Eish!
Mortified, I couldn’t wait for the class to end and vowed never to do that to myself again. But, just when I thought I’d sworn off Zumba for good, I discovered online Zumba and a few other great free fitness channels for women.
Get fit and toned at home
It’s true – we don’t need expensive gym memberships or to attend classes to get toned and fit.
Whether you want to look your best in a wedding dress or found that all your jeans magically shrunk overnight (don’t you hate it when that happens?!), there are lots of ways to get fit for free. In fact, you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your home.
Here are 3 great fitness YouTube channels that offer free workouts for women…
Jessica is one of my favourite online personal trainers. She’s upbeat and professional and since she usually films her workouts at home (with her cute dog, Peanut, watching on and sometimes licking her), it kind of feels as chilled as working out with a friend in your living room.
I particularly like that she offers a series of low-impact workouts - perfect for beginners or people who have weakness or old injuries – and her beach 20-minute beach body Pilates workout is one of my favourites – it’s so relaxing. You can follow it below…
If you want to feel like a beach babe, even in the middle of winter, you’re going to love working out with Karena and Katrina from ToneItUp. They produce some great toning videos (with and without weights) and film most of them on beautiful beaches. Go on and give their bridal workout a go…
After my shameful attempt at joining a Zumba class, I never thought I’d be zumbaering again. That was until I discovered that so many Zumba studios and teachers share their routines online and for free! Now I love creating and following Zumba playlists.
My favourite channel is ReFitRev. Check out their moves (and bust some of your own) by following the routine below…
Please note: Most of these workout videos are designed by professional personal trainers however, if you have any reason to be cautious about the exercise you do, speak to your doctor before following a new workout. Workout at your own pace and, if you feel any unusual discomfort, listen to your body and either adjust the move so that you’re more comfortable or stop.
